The senator was asked if he wanted Mayor Sara’s backing. According to him, he will ask for her support in the presidential race.

“Of course, sino ba namang ayaw humiling na suportahan ka ni Mayor Inday Sara. Kung ako ang tatanungin, hihilingin ko po na suportahan niya po ako bilang pangulo,” Go said.

Go spearheaded the launch of the 149th branch of his pet project – Malasakit Center – at the San Lorenzo Ruiz General Hospital in Malabon last Tuesday.

The incumbent senator told jokes and gave away cash assistance, bikes, and shoes to hospital workers. However, he turned sentimental when he faced the media after the said event.

“I’m still hurting – and I have been losing sleep” Go said over his last-minute decision to run for president.

Go also said that he could still barely wrap his mind around the idea that he’s now the one seeking the presidency, upon the orders of his boss, President Rodrigo Duterte.

The senator was initially reluctant to run for president because he’s hoping Mayor Sara would agree to follow her father’s footsteps. But when Mayor Sara recently decided to run for vice president, Go felt that his plans with the President were thrown in limbo.

According to the senator, he initially followed President Duterte’s instruction to file his candidacy for vice president to be the running mate of Mayor Sara.

“Biglaan lang po. Two days prior my filing, sinabi niya (Pres. Duterte), ‘Bong, ikaw na tumakbo dahil wala na kandidato ang partido natin. Babatuhin tayo ng partido (kung) wala man isa sa atin tumakbo,” Go said. “Then I accepted the challenge.”

But now that he’s seeking the presidency instead, the senator remained optimistic that Mayor Sara will run with him.
