It was in 2016 when Duterte was elected as the 16th President of the Republic of the Philippines. Prior to that, he was a longtime mayor of Davao City.

Last month, he announced that he would be possibly retiring from politics. But months before disclosing his plan to end his political journey, he has been vocal about his interest to run for vice president.

Recently, the PDP-Laban faction under Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi revealed they have convinced him to run for senator under their party.

In an interview, Bato dela Rosa gave a reaction about Cusi’s wing, convincing the president to run for the said post.

“Tingnan natin kung talagang pinipilit ba siya or kagustuhan niya. We better get it from the horse’s mouth kung talagang gusto niya dahil ang alam ko gusto niya tumakbo talaga. ‘Yan ang alam ko,” he said.

“Alam mo, gusto niya mag-retire sometimes, sometimes naman gusto niyang tumakbo. Let’s leave him sa kanyang choice kung ano talagang gusto niya,” he added.

The former PNP chief-turned-senator described the president as a “workaholic” who wants to serve the country until his last breath.

The PDP-Laban faction under Cusi originally plans to push the Bong Go-Duterte tandem. However, the president dropped his plans for 2022 after announcing his retirement from politics.

Senator Bong Go, a longtime aide of Duterte, filed his certificate of candidacy for vice president last October 2. He was accompanied by the president himself during his filing.
