Davao City Vice Mayor Baste Duterte Withdraws Re-election Bid
BASTE DUTERTE – The Davao City Vice Mayor confirmed through a statement that he filed his withdrawal from a re-election bid.
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) set October 8, 2021 as the deadline for the filing of the Certificate of Candidacy (COC). Several incumbent government officials filed for re-election.
One of those who have filed for a re-election bid is Davao City Vice Mayor Baste Duterte. His older sister, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, and older brother, Davao Representative Paolo Duterte, are also seeking re-election in 2022.
Despite that she has already filed her candidacy for re-election in the mayoralty post in Davao City, the supporters of Mayor Inday Sara continue to call for her to run for a national position in 2022.
Davao City Vice Mayor Duterte previously said that he really doubts if his sister would listen to the groups calling for her to reconsider her decision and make a bid for a national position. According to him, he would support her on what she wants and where she is happy.
The Davao City Vice Mayor also said that he would prefer their father, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, to just go home to Davao City and relax after his term ends. He stressed the age of the Chief Executive who is currently 76 years old.
Recently, an update about Davao City Vice Mayor Baste Duterte crossed the surface. Based on a report on Inquirer, the younger Duterte is not running for vice mayor in the 2022 Election anymore.
In a statement released by his office, Davao City Vice Mayor Baste Duterte confirmed that he withdrew his candidacy for re-election as vice mayor and he nominated lawyer Melchor Quitain Jr. to be his substitute.
Duterte expressed his gratitude to the people in Davao City for all the support given to him. According to him, he has no other details to share as of the moment.
