A hot-air balloon is a lighter-than-air aircraft consisting of a bag, called an envelope, which contains heated air.

Suspended beneath is a gondola or wicker basket, which carries passengers and a source of heat, in most cases an open flame caused by burning liquid propane.

Based on an investigation by police and the Civil Aviation Authority, the man was identified as Cohen Yogev.

In a video retrieved by the authorities, Yogev can be seen hanging from the hot air balloon as it flies in the air.

Yogev was with the staff preparing a hot air balloon for take-off.

The pilot allegedly told Yogev to jump immediately while the balloon had not yet flown high but he reportedly refused and clung to the basket.

As a result, the crew tried to stop the balloon while the passengers pulled Yogev into the basket. Unfortunately, the victim slipped and fell.

Police said the man fell on the highway from a height of 100 meters or 330 feet and landed on top of a moving vehicle.

According to a paramedic, Yogev sustained a multi-systemic injury, and he was no longer breathing without a pulse when rescued.

The balloon had 14 passengers when the incident occurred. Fortunately, they were all safe including the pilot.

Police closed the highway as they continued to gather narratives from the crew and balloon passengers who witnessed the incident.
