The Senate is now reviewing the proposed budget of different government agencies for the year 2022.

The House of Representatives has already approved the proposed PHP 5.024-trillion budget – the largest in the country’s history – on the third and final reading last month. This means that the ball was on the senators’ court.

Among the government agencies which is being questioned is the Department of Agriculture. Under the said agency is the National Tobacco Administration.

During the Senate hearing, Villar was heard cursing after she saw the proposed allocation for the provision of “production technical marketing assistance” which she said was “prone” to corruption.

“Ang sabi dito , provision of production technical marketing assistance. P*tangina, puro nakaw ‘to,” she said, which the NTA officials denied.

“Tigilan niyo na ko sa mga technical assistance na ‘yan, alam naman natin na drama lang yan ng taon. Naku naman. Diyos ko. Terible,” she added.

Senator Cynthia Villar, on the other hand, suggested that the proposed P100 million allocation for technical assistance be used as emergency assistance to tobacco farmers.

The NTA agreed with the proposal of Villar.

DA Undersecretary Ariel Cayanan also assured that they will notify the NTA administrator to amend the budget proposal.

NTA is pushing for P505 million funding for 2022 of which P200 million is for the assistance program to tobacco farmers.
