The congressman who was a member of the Senate from 2007 to 2017 announced his political plan in a press conference earlier.

It would be recalled that it was in July when he said that he is considering running for the highest position in the country or being reelected. At the time, he stressed that he would not gamble again for a vice-presidential seat.

Cayetano said he’s considering seeking the presidency, citing the proliferation of online casinos and cockfights.

But on the first day of filing the Certificate of Candidacy (COC), the representative of Taguig–Pateros’s 1st district declared that he would not run for the country’s highest post in the 2022 national elections.

The former Speaker realized that he could only cause division if he ran for chief executive in the coming polls.

Meanwhile, the filing of COC kicked off on Friday, October 1 and it will end on October 8. The filing for national posts (president, vice president, and senator) is being held at the Harbor Garden Tent inside the Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila compound in Pasay City.

The Commission on Elections will post a tentative list of candidates on October 29.

On the other hand, the campaign period for nationally-elected positions will kick off on February 8, 2022, until May 7, 2022. The nationwide elections are scheduled to be held on May 9.
