Former senator Antonio Trillanes IV gave Vice President Leni Robredo a deadline to decide whether to run as president in the 2022 elections or not.
Trillanes had previously expressed his intention to run for president in the 2022 elections but paused his plans in order to give way to Robredo to seek the country’s highest post.
But a recent development in the opposition, particularly within the ranks of 1Sambayan, may be forcing the former senator to run as president.
Trillanes said in his Facebook post that they continued to encourage the Vice President to seek the country’s highest post, adding that they will ensure her win if she will push through.
However, the former said that he will run as president if Robredo still can’t decide by 12:00nn of October 8, 2021.

According to him, they will not allow the “true opposition” to lose without putting up a fight.
“Tuloy ang pagtulak natin kay VP Leni to run for President. Kung tumuloy sya, ipanalo natin sya. Pero kung ‘di pa rin sya makapagdesisyon by 12nn of October 8, tuloy na po ako ng pagka-presidente. ‘Di po natin hahayaang matalo ang TUNAY na OPOSISYON nang ‘di man lang lumaban,” Trillanes said.
Trillanes was one of 1Sambayan’s nominees for president, but he wanted to give way to the Vice President if she decided to heed her supporters’ calls.
However, both Robredo and 1Sambayan were pushing for more unity talks with “anti-administration forces” such as Senator Manny Pacquiao and Manila Mayor Isko Moreno.
The former senator then took offense to this as he said that colluding with Pacquiao and Moreno will dilute the message of the opposition.
