On Wednesday, President Duterte has formally accepted his nomination for vice president in the 2022 elections by the PDP-Laban faction led by Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi.

In his speech, President Duterte thanked the ruling party for the nomination and said that he’s hopeful that this will allow him to continue serving the Filipino people.

President Duterte also said that he had never been engaged in corruption in his 40 years in the government.

Kung nag-corrupt ako, I have been here 40 years, bakit ngayon pa? Bakit ako makialam sa procurement? E di sana noon pa, inumpisahan ko na. You must believe in me. Why would I dip my hands in the procurement?” President Duterte said, referring to the PHP 8 billion worth of government procurement of pandemic supplies that’s being investigated by the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee.

According to the President, he would have faced his partymates if he’s involved in corruption. President Duterte didn’t mention a preferred standard bearer but described Senator Bong Go as “a very bright person”.

While President Duterte formally accepted his nomination for vice president, Senator Bong Go still declined his nomination for president in the 2022 elections.

In a statement, the senator thanked his colleagues in the party for their trust and support for him and the President, but he reiterated that he’s not interested in running for President in upcoming elections.

Senator Bong Go also shared his reason why he decided not to attend the Cusi-led PDP-Laban national convention.

Go said in a statement.
