Panelo: “Ang oposisyon nasa panic mode kasi hindi nila alam kung sino ang kalaban”
SALVADOR PANELO – The Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Secretary claimed that it is not President Rodrigo Duterte who is in panic mode but the opposition.
Panelo made the statement in response to Senator Panfilo Lacson’s earlier remark that the president is in panic mode after personalities close to him are being investigated by the Senate.
Contrary to the remark of Lacson, Panelo said that it is Lacson as well as the opposition who is in panic mode because they do not know between President Duterte and his daughter Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio who will be up against them in the coming elections.
He said the opposition is worried because until now there has been no direct announcement on who will be the administration’s standard-bearer in the 2022 elections.
He said that what happened to Otso Diretso party, who lost a landslide in the previous elections might be repeated in the upcoming polls.
In his tour around different provinces, Panelo said that many people wanted a Duterte to continue leading the country because of the changes in the country that have not been seen in politicians sitting for a long time but have contributed nothing to the country.
It can be recalled that during a recent public address of President Duterte, he lashed out at Lacson and Senator Richard Gordon, chairman of the Senate blue ribbon committee, amid investigation on Commission on Audit’s flagged “deficiencies” in handling pandemic funds.
The said hearing tackled the controversial procurement of allegedly overpriced pandemic-related supplies last year.
But Lacson brushed off Duterte’s remark against him, saying that the president is now in “panic mode” with an attempt to discourage the Senate from investigating the alleged flagged “deficiencies.”
