BI spokesperson Dana Sandoval said during the “Laging Handa” public briefing that they have received reports that individuals posing as immigration officers were offering fixing services for entry exemption documents and other services.

According to Sandoval, they learned that individuals posing as immigration officers were particularly targeting aliens who were temporarily barred from entering the Philippines.

Nalaman po natin that they are particularly targeting aliens that are temporarily barred from entering the country, dahil alam natin na sa ngayon ‘yung tourists ay hindi pa allowed pumasok,” Sandoval said.

Sandoval also noted that entry exemption documents weren’t issued by the Bureau of Immigration but by foreign posts abroad.

She added that they’re coordinating with appropriate law enforcement agencies so that they can intercept those kinds of modus.

Marami po itong mga ganitong schemes na ito but essentially ini-introduce po nila ang sarili nila bilang employee. Once nakapagbayad na po ‘yung biktima, bigla na lang pong nawawala. We are coordinating with appropriate law enforcement agencies para mahuli ‘yung mga ganitong modus,” she added.

On Friday, the Bureau of Immigration said in a statement that only Filipinos, foreign parents of Filipino minors, foreign spouses and children of Filipinos, and foreigners holding non-immigrant and immigrant visas were currently allowed entry in the Philippines.

According to the Bureau of Immigration, entry exemption documents were issued by foreign posts abroad to foreigners who wished to enter the country with tourist visas.
