GRENADE ATTACK – An explosive weapon was thrown at the residence of Deputy Speaker Rufus Rodriguez in Cagayan de Oro on Wednesday.

Fortunately, the grenade which was thrown at exactly 1:12 a.m by unknown men did not explode.

The second district representative of Cagayan de Oro City broke the news via a family statement posted on social media.

In the said statement, the family condemned the “act of violence” perpetrated by the suspects. It noted that the authorities are currently conducting investigations regarding the grenade attack.

Despite the attack, Deputy Speaker Rodriguez will continue with his duty as a congressman.

The attack at the residence of Rodriguez was done, days before the Commission on Elections starts to accept certificates of candidacies for the 2022 Local and National elections.

Meanwhile, Rufus Rodriguez is the president of the Centrist Democratic Party and has been a member of the House of Representatives representing the second district of Cagayan de Oro City from 2007 to 2016 and from 2019-present.

He served as Vice-Governor of Misamis Oriental from 1984 to 1986 and in 1990, he became the dean of the College of Law of San Sebastian College.

In 1998, he was appointed n by President Joseph Estrada as the head of the Bureau of Immigration until 2001.

Rodriguez ranked first in the House of Representatives during the 15th Congress in terms of the number of bills and resolutions filed. Out of 997, 9 have become laws. Because of this, he was named as the House member with the number of bills filed that became law.

Rodriguez is married to Fenina Tiukinhoy of Surigao City and they have a daughter named Regine Beatrice.
