Gordon to Bong Go: “Hindi ako ang lumapit sa gobyerno, ang gobyerno ang lumapit sa amin.”

According to Senator Gordon, it’s the government that asked for help and not the Philippine Red Cross who approached the government.

Senator Gordon also said that he didn’t ask for a contract but they’re told to come up with a contract and he didn’t sign it because he believed that the said matter should be fixed by the government.

He added that Health Secretary Francisco Duque III, Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana, and Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles as the government representatives who approached the Philippine Red Cross.

Senator Gordon also agreed that the matter should be referred to the Senate Blue Ribbon committee.

Senator Gordon’s response came after Senator Bong Go told Senator Gordon to inhibit himself from PhilHealth investigations because of “conflict of interest”.

In a privilege speech Tuesday, Senator Go mentioned the multi-million memorandum of agreement (MOA) that the Philippine Red Cross entered into with PhilHealth during the onset of the pandemic last year.

In the spirit of fairness and impartiality, shouldn’t the Blue Ribbon Committee chair inhibit himself on further hearing or matters involving PhilHealth? Make no mistake, I will not present conclusions here without due process and fairness,” Senator Go said.
