Palace welcomed the inclusion of Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine in WHO Emergency Use Listing

Malacañang on Wednesday welcomed the inclusion of the China-made Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine in World Health Organization’s Emergency Use Listing (EUL), saying that this would further boost the public’s confidence about the said vaccine.

In an interview with State-run PTV-4, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque wasn’t able to hide his happiness about the recent development, especially since it’s not only the Philippine Food and Drug Administration (FDA) saying that the Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine was safe.

Roque made the statement after the World Health Organization approved the said vaccine brand for emergency use listing (EUL), making Sinovac the second Chinese COVID-19 vaccine to be used in poor countries.

Being included in the WHO’s emergency use listing was a signal to national regulators of a product’s efficacy and safety.

The recent development will allow the said vaccine brand to be included in the WHO-led COVAX, the program providing COVID-19 vaccines mainly for poor countries, which was recently facing supply problems because of limitations on Indian exports.
