Lawyer from Naga City Arrested in NBI Entrapment Operation

A lawyer from Naga City, Camarines Sur was arrested in an entrapment operation by the National Bureau of Investigation for alleged extortion.

The suspect, identified as Atty. Ferdino Condez claiming to be an employee of the Optical Media Board (OMB), extort money (nearly half a million pesos) from a cellphone store in the city.

According to NBI Naga, it was on June 8, 2021 when a businessman went to their office to file complaint against Atty. Ferdino Condez.

The businessman said that some OMB members allegedly went to their cellphone store and confiscated the memory cards and cellphones on display.

The shop owner plead to Atty. Condez not to close their store but the suspect said that the owner should just give P500,000 so that it will not be closed.

The businessman and Atty. Condez agreed for a P350,000 to prevent the store from closing.

The lawyer was unaware that the businessman had already contacted the NBI.

An entrapment operation was conducted at a hotel restaurant in Naga City. After seizing the money, the NBI arrested Condez.

Atty. Ferdino M. Condez will undergo inquest proceedings.

He will be facing charges of Violation of Article 294 (Robbery/Extortion) of the Revised Penal Code as amended and Violation of Republic Act 3019 (Anti Graft and Corrupt Practices Act).

The arrested suspect is now in the custody of the NBI Naga.
