Valenzuela mayor suspends business permit of the factory that paid its worker in centavo coins
Mayor Rex Gatchalian of Valenzuela City suspended the business permit of Nexgreen Enterprise after paying its factory employee with centavo coins.
Unfortunately, it is one of the many violations committed by the said enterprise.
In a meeting between factory owners and local government officials, it was found out that some of its workers are not being paid correctly.
This includes a certain Russel Mañoza who earlier complained after receiving his salary worth P1,056 in centavo coins.
According to the computation made by the LGU, the said enterprise owes Mañoza more or less P55,000 because of underpayment as well as non-payment of overtime and holiday pay.
Russel Mañoza has since resigned from Nexgreen Enterprise after the incident.
Jasper So, the owner of the factory, said that the centavo coins were given to the worker by mistake.
He added that he keeps a bunch of coins for his religious offerings.
Meanwhile, here are the violations committed by the factory according to the city government:
- Mayor’s permit
- Waiver and/or undertaking
- Article 19 of the Civil Code of the Philippines in relation to Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Circular No. 537, Series of 2006 after paying its worker his salary in coins of small denomination more than the limit allowed by law
- Provisions of the Labor Code when it failed to pay correct minimum wage, non-payment of overtime pay, non-payment of night shift differential, non-payment of holiday pay
- Provisions of other legislations for non-coverage of SSS, PhilHealth, and Pag-IBIG fund
The company has been given 15 days to respond and address the issues and failure to do so would result to permanent closure.
