Fake Pfizer Vaccines: DILG Issues Warning to Public, LGUs

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) warned the public and the local government units and against the “fake Pfizer” vaccines.

This was after the World Health Organization (WHO) issued a warning that fake Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines are possibly out in the market.

DILG Secretary Eduardo Año alerted the local executives about their “vaccine sources or chain of supply and ensure that all medical products particularly COVID-19 vaccines must be obtained from authorized/licensed suppliers.”

“While there is no information yet on the presence of the fake vaccines in the country, LGUs should exercise increased diligence as these fake vaccines may be dangerous to the health of those who get inoculated,” he added.

WHO warned the public versus falsified COVID-19 vaccine with the product name “BNT162b2” which is said to be manufactured by Pfizer Biontech.

The said product allegedly contains an expiry date of “AUG 24” and lot number “783201.”

According to WHO, the fake vaccine was first discovered in Mexico.

WHO is currently conducting laboratory analysis of the contents of the fake vaccine.

The Philippine National Police, on the other hand, is being directed to assist in the investigation and confiscate fake Pfizer vaccines.

“Inatasan ko na ang PNP na tutukan ang isyu tungkol sa pekeng bakuna para walang mapahamak sa paggamit nito,” he said.
