Former Philippine Presidents Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and Joseph “Erap” Estrada agreed to meet President Rodrigo Duterte to discuss issues surrounding the West Philippine Sea.

Based on a report on GMA Network’s “24 Oras”, former senator Jinggoy Estrada said that former President Joseph “Erap” Estrada was “very eager” to attend.

However, Jinggoy said that his father’s attendance would depend on his doctors’ evaluation as his father recently recovered after testing positive for coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

According to a member of Arroyo’s staff, former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo had accepted President Duterte’s invitation.

Will former Presidents Fidel Ramos and Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III accept President Duterte’s invitation as well?

According to a report on GMA News Online, former President Ramos had yet to issue a statement about it.

Meanwhile, a source close to former President Benigno Aquino III told GMA News that he had yet to receive a formal invitation from Malacañang. The source also told GMA News that Aquino will be unable to attend because of undisclosed reasons.

On Thursday, Malacañang said that President Duterte was considering sitting down with former Philippine Presidents to discuss the issues surrounding the West Philippine Sea.

Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque Jr. had said that President Duterte wasn’t keen on convening the National Security Council (NSC), saying that nothing definite had come out of NSC meetings.
