In a report on CNN Philippines. American vaccine mamufacturer Moderna had filed for an emergency use authorization (EUA) for its COVID-19 vaccine to be used in the Philippines. FDA Director-General Eric Domingo said that the EUA application was submitted on Monday.

An initial shipment of nearly 200,000 Moderna COVID-19 vaccine doses was scheduled to arrive in the Philippines on June 15, 2021.

Earlier, the Philippines signed a tripartite agreement with Moderna to receive 20 million COVID-19 vaccine doses. Under the said deal, 13 million Moderna COVID-19 vaccine doses will be allocated to the national government, while 7 million Moderna COVID-19 vaccine doses will go to the private sector.

Meanwhile, GMA News Online reported last Friday that Moderna was conducting clinical trials of its COVID-19 booster shot that was compatible with other COVID-19 vaccine brands.

Philippine Ambassador to the US Jose Manuel Romualdez said in an interview on Dobol B TV that he was advised by Moderna that they’re already conducting clinical tests on the COVID-19 booster shots.

The said booster shot, according to Romualdez, can be used regardless of the COVID-19 vaccine brand a person initially got.

Itong booster shots pwede natin gamiting maski anong brand. Kung nagpabakuna sila ng ibang brand, pwedeng pang booster nila itong Moderna,” Romualdez said.

Romualdez also said that Moderna’s COVID-19 booster shot will be delivered to the Philippines towards the end of the year 2021.
