In a tweet, Twitter mentioned that the platform’s new feature was currently being tested on both iOS and Android devices as the said feature would let its users upload high-resolution images on mobile devices.

In order to take advantage of the said feature, users would have to manually enable the new “high-quality image uploads” option in the mobile app’s “Data Usage” settings.

Also, Twitter changed how images appeared on the mobile’s timeline.

Twitter’s Chief Design Officer Dantley Davis mentioned that tweets with a single photo would show the images as it was, provided it was a standard aspect ratio.

Previously, the default photo preview was always set on a landscape view regardless of the image orientation. Now, with Twitter’s new feature, only the extra-wide or tall images would be center-cropped.

With this test, we hope to learn if this new approach is better and what changes we need to make to provide a ‘what you see is what you get’ experience for twitters with images,” Davis said in a tweet.

The test had been launched only to a small group on iOS and Android devices. Meanwhile, there’s no word yet about its official release as of this writing.
