Incumbent Cavite Governor Jonvic Remulla paid tribute to his late political rival, former governor Erineo “Ayong” Maliksi.

In a statement, Remulla said that even though their relationship is not perfect, he recognizes Maliksi as a gentleman, leader, and loyal citizen.

“On behalf of the people serving the Capitol, the Remulla Family and the Province of Cavite: I would like to extend my condolences to the Maliksi family for the loss of their beloved patriarch Erineo ‘Ayong’ Maliksi,” he said.

“We are all the better because of his service and his friendship. Although our relationship was never perfect, I regard him as a gentleman, a leader, and a steadfast Caviteño. These are times when politics end, and civility begins,” he added.

Maliksi passed away at the age of 82. It was by his son Imus Mayor Emmanuel Maliksi.

It was in 1980 when Ayong Maliksi started his political career. He served as vice mayor of Imus, Cavite at the time. Then, in 1988 he was elected as the mayor and served until 1998.

From the year 2001 to 2010, he served as the governor of Cavite and also as a member of the House of Representatives from 1998 to 2001, and from 2010 to 2013.
