Based upon the investigation conducted by Santa Ana Police, it was on Wednesday when the victims along with their family had breakfast while having a crab locally known as “kurit” as their viand.

It was caught by their father from the sea.

But at around 1 pm, the two siblings aged 5 and 2, lost consciousness.

They were immediately taken to a nearby hospital but at around 11 pm, the five-year-old child died while it was being treated.

The following day, the two-year-old child was supposed to be admitted to another hospital. However, the minor passed away on the way to the hospital.

Their father, who also experienced symptoms such as chills, is now recovering at the hospital.

According to the police, the doctor’s examination revealed that food poisoning was the cause of death of the two children.

“Ayon sa attending physician, ang immediate cause of death ng dalawang bata ay respiratory failure, antecedent cause ay severe hypersensitivity at ang underlying cause ay food poisoning,” said Police Maj. Ronald Balod, chief of Santa Ana Police.

BFAR Region 2 has already taken a sample to see if the crab is the alleged cause of the poisoning of the victims.
