Eight (8) Cabinet officials are alleged to be the senatorial bets of President Rodrigo Duterte in the upcoming 2022 elections.
However, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque did not confirm the report courtesy of Politiko which revealed the names of possible senatorial bets of the president.
Roque cited the executive privilege in response to the report- wherein he was mentioned as one of the Cabinet officials who are Duterte’s senatorial bets.
Among those included in the list according to Politiko via tnt.abante.com.ph is Public Works Secretary Mark Villar, Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez, Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade, Health Secretary Francisco Duque III, Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III, Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles, Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo at Presidential Peace Process Adviser and vaccine czar Carlito Galvez.
“Alam niyo po kasi ang aming mga pagmi-meeting ay covered din by executive privilege. I think yung mga bagay na ‘yan po, dahil hindi naman po kasama sa agenda, will remain to be confidential. So I cannot comment on that,” Roque said.
In 2019, eight of the 11 senators endorsed by President Duterte won the election.
It includes former Philippine National Police chief Ronald dela Rosa, longtime aide Bong Go, Senators Aquilino Pimentel III, Sonny Angara, Cynthia Villar, Taguig Rep. Pia Cayetano, former presidential political adviser Francis Tolentino and Ilocos Norte Gov. Imee Marcos.
