Here’s the statement of Tim Yap about holding a party in Baguio
Tim Yap aired his side after receiving backlash over his grand birthday party held at a hotel in Baguio City over the weekend.
Netizens criticized the spread of photos and videos taken at the said party because they allegedly did not follow the government’s minimum health standard, now that the world continues to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.
In the live episode of CNN Philippines’ The Final Word on Tuesday night, January 26, Tim Yap had an interview with host Rico Hizon.
During the interview, Tim was shown the clips taken at the party where his guests were close together and dancing.
Most of them can also be seen not wearing face masks.
He explained that the dancing was not expected.
“What actually happened behind this video is that everybody, they were on their way to eat, to have their dinner,” he said.
“And then all of a sudden, the cultural dance happened. And so, the cultural dancers pulled everybody, including myself who got carried away, we invited everybody to do the cultural community dance,” he added.
It is said that before and after the event, they have been following the safety protocols, especially since Baguio City is strict when it comes to this.
During his interview, some pictures were also shown with the guests and even the performers at Tim’s party wearing masks.
Prior to the party, Tim Yap said in his welcome message to strictly follow the safety protocols against COVID-19.
According to him, all their activities are supervised by the local government unit (LGU). They even underwent the COVID-19 test before entering Baguio.
Tim’s party had a backlash because his friend Raymond Gutierrez had earlier held a birthday party in Bonifacio Global City (BGC), Taguig City, where safety protocols were not followed.
The local government closed the restaurant where Raymond’s birthday party was held. Tim was one of the attendees.
