Padre Burgos, Quezon Residents Found 4-Meter Whale
More than 4-meter whale has been found by the residents living near the coastal areas of Padre Burgos, Quezon.
On Friday morning (January 8, 2021), the residents of Barangay Campo, in Padre Burgos, Quezon found a dead whale along the coastal area near the fish port of the town. The whale has a length of 4.3 meters and weight of 600 kilograms.
Several personnel of Quezon local government unit and Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) went to the area to inspect the sea creature.
The field experts said that the marine creature has been identified as a Blainville’s beaked whale. It is the first stranded marine mammal found in 2021. Initially, the residents thought that it was a ‘dolphin’.
The authorities have used heavy equipment to lift and transfer the marine creature into the truck because of its weight. The experts took sample tissues from the whale for a research study.
The officials buried the whale around 12:00 pm this afternoon.
