Facebook Removes “Likes” On Redesigned Pages, Focuses On “Followers”

Facebook removed “Likes” on its redesigned Pages and focused on “Followers” instead.

Facebook officially announced its redesigned Facebook Pages experience and a big change with this update was the removal of “Likes” for Pages.

With this change, Facebook wanted to focus on “Followers” in order to simplify the way users connect with their favorite Pages.

Facebook had recently rolled out its redesigned Facebook Pages experience — includes removing “Likes”, a dedicated News Feed, a redesigned layout for the user interface, simpler navigation, new insights, refreshed admin controls for partial or full privileges, and also safety and integrity features as well.

In a blog post, Facebook’s Head of Public Connections and Monetization Asad Awan said that they’re removing “Likes” and focusing on “Followers” in order to simplify the way users connect with their favorite Pages.

Unlike Likes, Asad explained that “Followers” of a Page represented the people who could receive updates from Pages, which helped gave public figures a stronger indication of their fan base.

Also, Asad said that they’ve added new Page management features aside from removing “Likes”.

We’ve added new Page management features — like the ability to more clearly assign and manage admin access permissions based on specific tasks. For example, you’ll now be able to grant varying levels of access to manage specific tasks including Insights, Ads, Content, and Community Activity & Messages. This will also ensure account safety and integrity,” Asad said in a Facebook blog post.

Moreover, Facebook said that it’s using the verified badge in order to help keep the community safe along with improving its detection of blocked content.

The redesigned Facebook Pages was starting to roll out today, but the company said that it would show up for all users in the “upcoming months”.
