Employees & Entrepreneurs Ask SSS and PhilHealth to Cancel Possible Increase of Contribution
A lot of employees and entrepreneurs are urging SSS and PhilHealth to cancel the possible contribution hike due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Over the previous months of 2020, the coronavirus pandemic severely affects the public’s health and the global economy as it continues to spread in different countries all around the world including the Philippines.
Millions of Filipino people have lost their jobs and livelihoods due to the effects of the health crisis in the country. The worsening pandemic brought thousands of people under the line of poverty.
A female employee identified as Jennifer Bado is struggling financially due to the limited number of customers eating at the restaurant where she is working. The company continue to deduct the SSS and PhilHealth contribution from her salary amid the pandemic.
“Pakiusap ko lang po, kung puwede, sa 2022 na lang po ganapin ‘yang mga ganyang pagtaas dahil sa ngayon, ‘di pa namin kaya,” Bado said.
People Management Association of the Philippines (PMAP) Executive Director Rene Gener stressed out that the additional contribution would just contribute to the burden of both employers and workers.
SSS is set to increase the contribution fee from 12 percent to 13 percent while PhilHealth would add an addition 0.5 percent.
