Vaccine experts panel in the US recommended an EUA of COVID-19 vaccine from Moderna

A panel of vaccine experts in the United States on Thursday voted to recommend an emergency use approval of COVID-19 vaccine from Moderna.

This, as it paved the way for 6 million COVID-19 vaccine doses to begin shipping as soon as this weekend.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the United States was expected to imminently grant an emergency use authorization (EUA), which will make the COVID-19 vaccine from Moderna the second to be approved in a Western country.

Meanwhile, Manila’s top diplomat to Washington on Friday said that two more American biopharmaceutical firms — including Moderna — were ready to supply 4 million to 25 million of their respective coronavirus vaccines to the Philippines.

According to Philippine Ambassador Jose Manuel Romualdez, the COVID-19 vaccines would be ready start third quarter of 2021 should the Philippine government find their proposals acceptable.

We are hoping our government will consider the promising candidates of Moderna and Arcturus for inclusion in our country’s pool of anti-COVID vaccines,” Romualdez said in a statement.

On Thursday, Senator Francis Pangilinan said that Health Secretary Francisco Duque III may face graft charges should it be proven that he mishandled the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine deal.
