Smart Plans To Roll Out 2,000 New Cell Sites In 2021

Smart was planning to roll out 2,000 new cell sites in 2021.

PLDT’s wireless arm Smart announced in a press statement that the company was planning to roll out 2,000 new cell sites in 2021.

This, as Smart had big plans in order to improve its connectivity and coverage for Filipinos next year.

Thanks to the Anti-Red Tap Authority (ARTA) which issued a Joint Memorandum Circular last August, Smart had secured close to 1,500 permits in order to build more cell sites across the Philippines.

Smart shared that these permits covered would be built in Metro Manila as well as typhoon-hit provinces like Aurora, Albay, Bulacan, Batangas, Camarines Sur, Cagayan, Isabela, Cavite, Masbate, Laguna, Rizal, Quezon, and Sorsogon.

In a report on Gizguide, the permits covered would also be built in the Luzon provinces of Abra, Ilocos Sur, Benguet, Mountain Province, Palawan, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Tarlac, Pangasinan, and Zambales; Visayas provinces of Antique, Aklan, Bohol, Iloilo, Cebu, Leyte, Northern Samar, Negros Occidental, and Southern Leyte; and Mindanao provinces of Agusan del Sur, Agusan del Norte, Cotabato (North Cotabato), Davao Oriental, Davao del Sur, Lanao del Sur, Lanao Del Norte, Maguindanao, South Cotabato, Misamis Oriental, Sultan Kudarat, Zamboanga del Norte, and Zamboanga Sibugay.

To recall, Smart tapped six tower companies in order to build the initial batch of 180-200 common towers, pursuant to the common tower policy of the government.

PLDT already had a fiber network of more than 395,000 kilometers nationwide supporting Smart’s mobile networks covering 96% of the Philippine population.

Moreover, PLDT also shared that it had ongoing plans for adding more than 500,000 fiber ports.
