More Companies Want To Join AstraZeneca Supply Deal, Says Gov’t Adviser

More companies wanted to join AstraZeneca supply deal, according to one of the Philippines’ presidential advisers.

One of the Philippines’ presidential advisers on Monday said that more companies wanted to join the agreement between private sector and the Philippine government in securing a supply of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine.

This, after senior officials announced that the Philippines had secured 2.6 million doses of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine by signing a tripartite agreement.

Joey Concepcion, Presidential adviser on entrepreneurship and also the founder of Go Negosyo, said that half of the 3.6 million doses set to arrive in the country in May or June 2021 would go to government healthworkers, while the other half would go to frontliners of the private companies.

Concepcion also told ABS-CBN’s Teleradyo that more companies wanted to join the said program, but there was a cutoff on November 30, 2020.

According to Concepcion, there might be a “part 2” since many Filipino companies were willing to join the fight against COVID-19.

“Kung makikita mo lahat ng ang oorder dito sa AstraZeneca ay countries na di tulad ng America na mayaman. Tumutulong sila sa mahihirap na countries kaya mababa ang cost ng vaccine,” he said.

To recall, COVID-19 Vaccine Czar Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. earlier said that AstraZeneca would undergo human clinical trial for its COVID-19 vaccine in the country.
