MMFF 2020 Entry, Magikland Earns Praise For CGI After Trailer Launches

MAGIKLAND TRAILER EARNS PRAISE – Throughout the history of Filipino cinema, one thing was always missing – innovations with CGI or (computer-generated imagery).

Of course, we have our run-of-the-mill fantasy franchise such as Enteng Kabisote or the old Gagamboy flicks. However, there are really not many movies that fully utilize CGI, unlike other countries.

Magikland Trailer Earns Praise For One Of The Best CGI In A Pinoy Movie

Luckily, for the Metro Manila Film Festival 2020, the film Magikland is looking to bring CGI innovations to Philippine cinema. Following the movie’s trailer premiere this week, Magikland earned praise from netizens across social media.

Furthermore, the film, which was actually inspired by a Theme Park in Silay City, Negros Occidental, has become the most expensive animated film in Philippine history.

One netizen from Reddit called the trailer “one of the best CGI” in a Filipino movie. Here is the full trailer:

Surely, the Philippines doesn’t have a lack in talent when it comes to visual arts. However, the unfortunate reality is that this form of media hasn’t gained the attention it needs in order to flourish.

But, if films such as Magikland gain enough traction, it could potentially launch the Philippines forward when it comes to CGI. Meanwhile, according to user Talkintechx, there are two factors holding back Filipino CGI – lack of sufficient funds and (2) reliance on “tried and tested” formulas by “veteran” directors.

On the other hand, thanks to Netflix, studios such as RocketSheep studios found great success in animated features such as “Hayop Ka!” and highly praised film, “Saving Sally”.
