Kalapati Sold To Mystery Chinese Buyer For P91.3 Million Or 1.6 Million Euros.

KALAPATI FOR SALE – A mysterious Chinese buyer bought a pigeon sold at P91.3 million on Sunday according to online auctioneers, Pigeon Paradise (PIPA).

The pigeon sold to the Chinese man was a female homing pigeon named New Kim. She was a two-year-old raised in a renowned Antwerp loft and placed for auction for just 200 euros or just P11,423.

According to PIPA, the sale was a world record. It trumps the sale for a male pigeon named Armando last year worth 1.25 million euros. Furthermore, PIPA theorizes that the buyer would likely want to breed New Kim.

Last year, the pigeon won the crown for “Ace Pigeon Grand National Middle Distance”. Along with this, pigeon racing has a large audience in China and could earn winning birds a large profit.

Currently, the landscape of the pigeon racing community is saturated with wealthy buyers from the Gulf and Asia. Usually, they force the price up for champion birds. Moreover, these pigeons have the ability to fly hundreds of miles and still make their way back home.

According to an article from ABS-CBN, father and son duo Gaston and Kurt Van De Wouwer raised New Kim. They are renowned breeders from a world-class loft in Berlaar, near Antwerp.
