Catriona Gray introduced as ‘Australian by birth but represented Philippines’
Netizens went outraged after Catriona Gray was introduced as ‘Australian by birth but represented Philippines’ as a judge in the coronation of Miss Universe Colombia 2020.
In the said pageant, the Miss Universe 2018 was introduced by the host in Spanish as “Australian by birth but represented Philippines after living for a few years there.”
Filipino pageant fans immediately took to their respective social media accounts to react on the said introduction of Catriona Gray.
Aside from the introduction which seemed to be an insult for her part, netizens noticed that Catriona’s surname was misspelled.
Instead of Gray, “Garay” was flashed on the screen.
After the said incident, Catriona Gray took to her Instagram wherein she posted a photo of her via IG Stories with the word, “Filipina.”
It can be recalled that the Philippines and Colombia once involved in a controversy during Miss Universe 2015 coronation night wherein host Steve Harvey mistakenly announced Ariadna Gutierrez as the winner.
But it turned out the Pia Wurtzbach won the Miss Universe 2015 title.
Recently, Ariadna said in an interview that she did not expect the Filipina-German beauty queen to win the crown as she and her fellow candidates rarely see her, so she likens her to a “ghost.”
