Mayors in Metro Manila cities were preparing for the possible onslaught of Typhoon “Rolly” as it continued to intensify ahead of its landfall.

This, as the center of the eye of typhoon “Rolly” was likely to make landfall over the Aurora-Quezon area on Sunday evening or on early Monday morning, according to a report by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

Valenzuela City Mayor Rex Gatchalian and Navotas City Mayor Toby Tiangco had instructed all construction activities in their areas to halt.

Aside from the rolling up of tarpaulins and billboards, Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte has directed the prepositioning of the city’s search and rescue teams in critical areas, particularly in barangays Tatalon, Apolonio Samson, Del Monte, and Sto. Domingo which were traversing the flood-prone area of G. Araneta Avenue.

According to Marikina City’s Rescue 161 Facebook page, the water level of the Marikina River was still normal, at 12.5 meters, as of 6:00 a.m. of October 31, 2020.

Meanwhile, the National Telecommunications Commission ordered all public telecommunications companies to be ready for the typhoon.
