Parents Doubt the Efficiency of Distance Learning Amid Pandemic
ONLINE LEARNING SYSTEM – Some parents are doubting the efficiency of the distance learning to the students.
The Philippine government has already approved the online learning system in the country amid the coronavirus pandemic. The Department of Education is set to impose the online learning starting October 5, 2020.
The senior high and college students have already started participating in their respective online classes. The new learning method aims to prevent the possible exposure of both students and teachers to the coronavirus disease.
Unfortunately, several parents have doubts regarding the efficiency of the distance learning since most students were used to learn on face-to-face teaching system.
Parents including Myla Licudan and Marivic Yalong were already preparing their kids for the upcoming opening of online class next month. They were worrying that distractions inside the house might affect the learning ability of the students.
“May anak po akong maliliit kaya ‘di sila maka-focus sa online class nila, Maingay at magulo kasi ang bunso kong anak at mahina ang signal sa loob namin,” Licudan stressed out.
However, family life and child development specialist Tina Zamora explained that a lot of students have learning difficulties even before the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The biggest obstacle ay ‘yong communication skills ng teacher at student,” Zamora explained.
DepEd-Bureau of Learning Delivery director Leila Areola also said that the students should adjust to the new learning environment.
