Multi-awarded singer-songwriter and businessman Jose Mari Chan has issued a statement regarding the denial of the ABS-CBN franchise.
It was on July 10 when the Congress decided to junk the franchise renewal bid of the country’s largest broadcasting network.
With the unrenewed franchise, the operation of Kapamilya Network permanently stopped which resulted in the retrenchment of its workers out of more than 11,000 employees.
Many have already left the network to pursue another job while others shifted networks and continue their respective career as a celebrity or as broadcast journalists.
Meanwhile, singer Jose Mari Chan who’s been known by his Christmas melodies gave his reaction about the shutdown of ABS-CBN.
Jose Mari Chan, who’s also one of the top celebrity stockholders of the network, said: “I think the cancellation of the franchise is extreme and overdone.”
The 75-year-old singer is clearly disappointed in the denial of the ABS-CBN franchise.
When asked by PEP.ph about his thoughts on the proposed MTRCB regulation of Netflix, iFlix, iWant TFC, and other streaming services, he said: “It’s the wrong time to do that. We have a pandemic, we should allow people some kind of entertainment.”
“Of course, part of this is the government is trying to raise more funds,” he added.
The government through the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board is planning to regulate online streaming services.
