This, as the Department of Health gave an update on the total number of COVID-19 cases in the Philippines as of 4:00 p.m. today, September 2, 2020.
According to its COVID-19 Case Bulletin #172 dated September 2, 2020, the Department of Health reported 2,218 newly-reported COVID-19 cases, which brought the total number of confirmed cases of coronavirus disease to 226,440.
In addition, the Department of Health stated that the newly-confirmed cases on Wednesday were reported based on the total tests done by 102 out of 110 current operational laboratories. Moreover, 1,932 out of 2,218 newly-reported cases occurred within the recent 14 days — from August 20 to September 2.

In addition, the Department of Health reported 64,207 total active cases as stated in its COVID-19 Case Bulletin #172 dated September 2, 2020.
Moreover, the Department of Health identified the top five areas with the highest number of new coronavirus cases as of September 2 only: Metro Manila with 1,163 new cases, Laguna with 112 new cases, Cebu with 107 new cases, Iloilo with 82 new cases, and Negros Occidental with 81 new cases.
Aside from the number of confirmed cases, the Department of Health had recorded 609 newly-reported recoveries and 27 newly-reported fatalities. This brought the total number of recoveries to 158,610 and total coronavirus deaths to 3,623.
