National Heroes’ Day message of President Duterte
President Rodrigo Duterte paid tribute to frontliners worldwide in a taped message as the country commemorates the National Heroes’ Day or “Araw ng mga Bayani”, today, August 31, 2020.
Duterte lauded the “modern day heroes” for risking their lives in battling the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
“Present day challenges posed by the current public health crisis have given rise to modern day heroes: the countless Filipino frontliners here and abroad who are battling the COVID-19 pandemic,” he said via PTV Network.
The country’s highest leader also urged Filipinos of becoming “everyday heroes” as the nation faces a “different kind of enemy.”
“I hope that the bravery of our Filipino heroes, past and present, will inspire us all to face and overcome even the most unfavorable situations. Together, let us become everyday heroes as we pursue a better future for everyone,” he said.

According to Inquirer.net, the National Heroes’ Day or Araw ng Mga Bayani was initially celebrated on the birth anniversary of Andres Bonifacio (November 30) but it was later moved to the last Monday of August to commemorate the Cry of Balintawak.
