However, not all drivers will enjoy the said privilege.

According to LTO, only the “good” drivers who will pass the requirement are entitled to the “premium” license valid for 10 years.

It will impose a point system that serves as the basis for the qualification of a 10-year driver’s license. Those who will commit any violation will have demerit points categorized into three; grave (5-points demerit), less grave (3-points), and light (1-point).

LTO chief Edgar Galvante said that a motorist can be disqualified from availing the 10-year license even if accumulating a 1-point demerit.

While motorists will be suspended and must attend a reorientation course before driving again if he/she earned 10 demerit points.

Based on the report of CNN Philippines, LTO will post on its official website the violations and demerit points.

“Isang incentive ito sa mga sumusunod sa batas-trapiko at walang violations. Pag-renew niya ng lisensiya niya starting October 2021 ay mabibigyan na siya ng 10-year valid license. Hopefully, with this measure, mabawas-bawasan ‘yung mga road crashes and traffic accidents,” he said.
