The Land Transportation Office (LTO) extended the validity of driver’s licenses that expired during the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).

LTO chief Assistant Secretary Edgar Galvante, in an interview with Dobol B sa News TV, said that applicants may process the renewal of their driver’s license within 60 days when the offices resumed its operations after the quarantine period. As per the report, Galvante said that no penalties for the late registration of motor vehicles and the renewal of driver’s licenses that expired within the quarantine period will be collected.

Also, Assistant Secretary Edgar Galvante said that the Land Transportation Office will limit its transactions once the enhanced community quarantine was lifted in order to observe health protocols — including social distancing — in view of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In addition, Galvante advised the public to process their registration before the deadline in order to avoid overcrowding at the offices on the last day of the 60-day extension.

Aside from LTO, the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) also extended the deadline for filing taxpayers’ income tax returns (ITRs) until June 14 as the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in some areas in the Philippines continued until May 15, 2020.

The said announcement came after President Rodrigo Duterte issued Executive Order No. 112 dated May 1, 2020, which approved the extension of enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in Metro Manila and other high-risk areas as well as the implementation of the general community quarantine (GCQ) in some parts of the Philippines.
