This, as the Department of Health gave an update on the total number of COVID-19 cases in the Philippines as of 4:00 p.m. today, August 18, 2020.
According to its COVID-19 Case Bulletin #157 dated August 18, 2020, the Department of Health reported 4,836 newly-reported COVID-19 cases, which brought the total number of confirmed cases of coronavirus disease to 169,213.
In addition, the Department of Health stated that the newly-confirmed cases on Tuesday were reported based on the total tests done by 84 out of 105 current operational laboratories. Moreover, 4,223 out of 4,836 newly-reported cases occurred within the recent 14 days — from August 5 to 18.

In addition, the Department of Health reported 53,665 total active cases as stated in its COVID-19 Case Bulletin #157 dated August 18, 2020.
Moreover, the Department of Health identified the top five areas with the highest number of new coronavirus cases as of August 18 only: Metro Manila with 2,959 new cases, Laguna with 321 new cases, Cavite with 220 new cases, Rizal with 185 new cases, and Bulacan with 145 new cases.
Aside from the number of confirmed cases, the Department of Health had recorded 182 newly-reported recoveries and seven newly-reported fatalities. This brought the total number of recoveries to 112,861 and total coronavirus deaths to 2,687.
