‘Because of my contact with the people, I thought I had contracted it”, according to Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro.
Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro on Tuesday shared that he thought he had contracted the virus because of his contact with the people.
In a report on CNN, he admitted that he thought he had gotten the virus earlier, adding that he’s the President of Brazil and he’s on the front line. He also said that he didn’t run away from his responsibility as a President nor did he shy away from the people.
Moreover, he said that he thought he had contracted the virus already — like most of the Brazilian population that had contracted the coronavirus disease — and didn’t know because of his contact with the people.
Brazil was second in terms of the number of coronavirus deaths and coronavirus cases, yet Bolsonaro had often appeared at rallies and in public without wearing his face mask and even hugging his supporters.
Bolsonaro struck a confrontational note during his interview with CNN Brasil as he defended his government’s management of the pandemic.

Bolsonaro also told CNN Brasil that he took both azithromycin and hydroxychloroquine while waiting for his COVID-19 test result, which came out “positive”, and credited these medicines for his well-being.
