The vice mayor of Cebu City on Tuesday said that a lone official should lead Cebu province’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
This, following a rapid increase in confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Cebu province.
On Monday, President Rodrigo Duterte ordered DENR Secretary Roy Cimatu, who was a former military chief, in order to monitor the pandemic response in Cebu City as the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the city already breached the 4,400-mark.

According to Cebu City Vice Mayor Mike Rama, the city government of Cebu felt bad that they have to be led by DENR Secretary Roy Cimatu yet it would help so that there would be only one leader.
Rama also said that the city government of Cebu didn’t have much time as they wanted to reduce fatalities and they wanted to flatten the curve, adding that the city government of Cebu would welcome DENR Secretary Roy Cimatu if he can flatten the curve and reduce fatalities in the city.
Last week, Duterte placed Cebu City under the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in order to limit the economic activity in food, utility services, water, and other essential sectors.
