According to health surveillance officer Hans Kristian Lorenzana, their real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test results – considered as fresh cases, have been released on Monday, June 1, 2020.

The recorded cases mark as the first cluster infection in the said city that prompted to lockdown a residential compound where at least six households reside.

“The cases we’ve been getting are normally sporadic, meaning (the patients) are not related to one another. This is the first time an entire family tested positive (for the virus)” Lorenzana told Inquirer.net.

Meanwhile, Mayor Walfredo Dimaguila Jr. of Biñan City has ordered restrictions in the movement among neighborhoods in Honoria Subdivision in Barangay Platero. The local government also launched contact tracing

The seven members who contracted the disease were placed in two different hospitals for isolation based on the statement of Lorenzana.

Lorenza revealed that the first member of the family who has been infected with COVID-19 was the father aged 59- a market fish vendor while the rest aged 57, 29, 24, 21, and children aged 5 and 3, later on, found out positive with coronavirus disease 2019.

On the other hand, the family’s son, who is a hospital nurse, turned out negative in the RT-PCR test, which shocked the localities.

“When we talked to the hospital (where the nurse son works), he has rarely come home because of his (hospital) duty and therefore rarely interacted with his family (since the outbreak),” the health surveillance officer noted.

As of posting, the Department of Health has reported 449 cases in Laguna.
