Globe To Build 5G Network Following The Transition From MECQ To GCQ

Globe Telecom Was About To Build Its 5G Network Following The Transition From MECQ To GCQ

Globe Telecom will build its own 5G network as the company was preparing for its official launch in the upcoming weeks after transitioning to a general community quarantine (GCQ).

This, as digital connectivity became more crucial amid the community quarantine measures in the Philippines, as such, Globe Telecom had been aggressive in expanding its 5G coverage in Metro Manila — specifically in the Makati and Central of Business Districts (CBDs) in Bonifacio Global City (BGC).

The national government previously implemented a modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ), which will end on May 31 in Metro Manila and will transition into a general community quarantine (GCQ) starting June 1, 2020.

Globe Telecom had started to showcase its 5G mobile network to selected Platinum customers last February 2020. Also, Globe Telecom was expected to make the service available to its Platinum and Postpaid mobile customers who were within the 5G-covered areas in the Philippines.

In addition, Globe Telecom will be launching a more affordable 5G-capable smartphones tot the market in order to push further the new network. Globe Telecom was also looking into ways on how to make its new network more relevant with new technologies — including augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR).

According to Albert De Larrazabal, the Chief Commercial Officer of Globe Telecom, the company was doing it “in solidarity with Filipinos who are on their way to getting back on their feet” as the company wanted to make the 5G experience progressively available in response to an increased dependence on digital among its mobile customers.

He also said that 5G would hasten the digital transformation in the Philippines as business, the government, and its people move towards digitalization.
