Latest tally of COVID-19 cases at the Bureau of Corrections

The Department of Justice (DOJ) has released the latest tally of coronavirus disease or COVID-19 cases at the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor).

As of May, 25, 2020, DOJ records a total of 194 confirmed cases, 6 deaths, and 11 recoveries.

In the tally released by the Department of Justice or DOJ, it has indicated that a total of 99 persons are suspected of having the disease, 36 are a probable carrier with 161 confirmed and 6 deaths under the Persons Deprived of Liberty or PDL

On the other hand, the tally indicated that among the personnel, there are 4 suspected carriers, 79 probable, 32 confirmed, and 3 recoveries.

According to a report courtesy of Aljazeera, social or physical distancing is impossible among lock-up cells in the country.

In order to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in correctional facilities, the Supreme Court decided to release almost 10000 persons deprived of liberty.

Out of 9,731 PDL who were released, 2,082 were from Metro Manila, 4,657 from other parts of Luzon, 1,072 from Visayas and 1,920 from Mindanao.

Meanwhile, in the latest bulletin released by the Department of Health, the Philippines has recorded 380 additional cases, 94 recoveries with 18 new deaths.

Based on the record of the country’s health department, the Philippines has now a total of 15,049 cases wherein 3,506 have recovered, 904 passed away, and 10,639 active cases.

The government is utilizing all its resources in order to lessen the effect of COVID-19 pandemic.

It also reiterated to the public to observe safety protocols such as social distancing, wearing of mask especially on pubic places, and using of disinfectant from time to time if possible.
