Contact Tracing Apps That Don’t Respect Privacy Will Be Removed — EU

Contact tracing apps that didn’t respect privacy will be removed from the App Store and Google Play Store, according to the European Union.

The European Union (EU) asked Apple and Google to remove from the App Store and Google Play Store contact tracing apps that didn’t respect privacy.

This, as the European Union suggested that these apps should follow the EU’s interoperability protocols in order to protect the users’ rights to privacy and data protection, adding that there should be a “close cooperation” between digital and health officials.

Thierry Breton, the Commissioner for the Internal Market, said that these apps could be useful, but, contact tracing applications were required to have strong privacy protection.

Meanwhile, Stella Kyriakides, the Commissioner for Health and Food Safety, said that these apps would be “crucial” to protect the people from getting infected with the coronavirus disease or COVID-19.
