Research Institute for Tropical Medicine Confirmed 40 RITM Staff Test Positive for Coronavirus

40 RITM STAFF – The Research Institute for Tropical Medicine confirmed that 40 of their staff tested positive for coronavirus.

In the Philippines, the national reference laboratory in the fight against coronavirus or COVID-19 is the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine. More commonly called as RITM, it is found in Muntinlupa City.

The fight against the spread of coronavirus is a tough battle for any country. The entire Luzon is now under an Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) to curb the infection.

Also, provinces in Visayas and Mindanao are implementing the ECQ. Currently, there is more than 6,000 cases of coronavirus confirmed in PH already.

Most of the swabs taken from the coronavirus patients, the suspects patients, and persons under monitoring are sent to Muntinlupa. Staff of RITM are the one handling these samples for checking.

Unfortunately, several RITM employees are now infected by the virus. Based on a report on GMA News, 40 RITM staff tested positive for COVID-19.

Also, according to RITM director Dr. Celia Carlos, most of the 40 RITM staff are asymptomatic or showing no symptoms. Based on the report, they are under quarantine at the dormitory facility of the laboratory.

Due to many staff of RITM being quarantined now, Dr. Carlos expressed that disinfection procedures have to be done. To give way for it, the operations must be adjusted.
