Construction workers did this to avoid starvation
Several construction workers who were stranded in UP compound have to eat these in order to survive amid the enhanced community quarantine.
When the ECQ was implemented, those working in the construction at the University of the Philippines Diliman compound werenât able to go home. Because of this, they had to do means in order to survive.
Based on the article from PEP, it reached to the point that they had to eat stray cats and rats in order to avoid starvation. Alfred Allan Jose, the founder of Quezon City COVID-19 Food and Goods Donation, was able to inform the entertainment news site regarding this matter.
Reportedly, there were 428 stranded construction workers in UP compound and they did not get any support from their employers. Aside from stray cats and rats, they also got their food from fruit-bearing trees inside the compound.
Fortunately, they got some help from the UP administration but the universities officials are also taking care some students and employers who also got stranded due to the ECQ.
However, these construction workers could not get help from the barangay since they are not residents there.
âAng mga stranded na indigenous people, nasa UP din. I went there yesterday to give rice. Eighty to one hundred people sila, including staff who feed them who are housed in UP also,â Alfred Allan Jose said.
They were able to bring 2 sacks of rice for the stranded workers but it is not enough. With this, they are asking other people who are willing to donate.
