Senate Building Guest Tested Positive for Coronavirus Resulting to Building Lockdown
SENATE BUILDING – The Philippine Senate is now under a lockdown after a guest tested positive for the 2019 novel coronavirus.
Currently, the total number of coronavirus cases in the Philippines is increasing. The Department of Health (DOH) announed 16 new confirmed cases bringing the total to 49.
DOH has previously confirmed a case of local transmission of coronavirus in the country. Also, it revealed that two (2) patients of COVID-19 are in critical condition. Philippines is now under public health emergency.
According to the health department, the said patients have to be intubated to support their breathing. Most COVID-19 patients are confined in Metro Manila hospitals.
Recently, a guest who has visited the Philippine Senate tested positive for coronavirus. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the Senate building is now under a lockdown due to it.
In a text message to the media, Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III expressed that they decided to have it under lockdown for safety. Disinfection may also be done.
“Lockdown na muna. We are just playing safe and lockdown will give us a chance for disinfection proceedings… Better to err on the side of caution,” the Senate President said based on the report.
Reportedly, Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian previously expressed that he will undergo self-quarantine as he had a contact with the guest that tested positive for coronavirus. Sen. Nancy Binay will also do the same.
Meanwhile, Sen. Sotto encourages everyone to stay calm. According to him, the said guest may not yet be COVID-19 infected upon the visit to the Senate. He assured that those who have to undergo quarantine are already doing it.
