Japan Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was pushing for the quick approval of “Avigan” as a treatment for people infected by COVID-19.

The Japanese government was pushing for the quick approval of “Avigan”, an anti-flu medicine, as a treatment for people infected by COVID-19 or the coronavirus disease.

This, as Japan Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said that the government will compile the country’s package of economic measures in order to deal with the impact of COVID-19.

As of this writing, Japan recorded a total of 1,866 confirmed COVID-19 cases, with 54 fatalities and 424 patients recovered from the coronavirus disease.

Avigan was developed by Fujifilm Holdings and the Japanese government will start conducting trial procedures, aiming at successful approval of the said medicine in curing patients with coronavirus disease.

Abe also said that Japan will go on clinical procedures together with other countries and will begin increasing production of Avigan “soon”.
